Big List o’Movies

Here it is. We’ve talked about it for a long time, but we’ve finally gotten around to publishing it. Here-in lies the Big List o’ Movies. We’ll try to keep this as up to date as we can. If you see additions or corrections to be made to the list, please include them in the comments. As we find those comments, we’ll make the changes then wipe out your comment. This is your list too, let us know what we should talk about.

    First pass…

    # Red Dawn
    # Superman 1
    # Superman 2
    # Superman 2 Donner Cut
    # Say Anything
    # Gross Pointe Blank
    # The Paper

That is the list of ones I would want to be “in the room” for.

    As for the rest…

I think the Godfather should be high on the list, but not one right after the other. Give each some breathing room from the others.

Also, “Amelie” was suggested in the chat room a couple of weeks ago. (Added 10/15/09 – Tony)

I’ll probably have more suggestions as time goes on.

  • 2 Chris // Oct 8, 2009 at 10:50 am

Sarah suggested Event Horizon for the list. (Added 10/15/09 – Tony)

  • 3 TheGreatMrChibi // Oct 13, 2009 at 12:28 am

I just watched Peter Jackson’s “The Frighteners”– it was fantastic. It would make a great Halloween episode. (Added 10/15/09 – Tony)

  • 4 Darrell // Oct 20, 2009 at 8:09 pm

I would like to vote for :
    Rosemary’s Baby
    The Blob (orig)
The Exorcist (All 3 added 10/21/09 – Tony)

  • 5 Jon Hook // Oct 22, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Please review The Fly (remake) and The Fly II (remake?) (Both added 10/26/09 – Tony)

  • 6 Chris // Oct 26, 2009 at 9:53 am

Watched Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures last week. That would a be an interesting one to do as well. (Added 10/26/09 – Tony)

  • 7 Rich // Oct 26, 2009 at 12:54 pm

    My Big Fat Greek Wedding
    Hero
    Curse of the Golden Flower
    The Ocean’s Franchise
Almost Famous (All 5 added 10/27/09 – Tony)

  • 8 Chris // Oct 28, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Enemy Mine (Added 10/29/09 – Tony – I was thinking about adding this one myself the other day and just forgot to. Thanks for reminding me.)

  • 9 Chris // Oct 29, 2009 at 1:36 pm

From the recording of Big Trouble…

    Adam suggests Kung Fu Hustle.

Phil suggests Shaolin Soccer.(Both added 10/30/09 – Tony)

  • 10 Chris // Oct 30, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Add Apocalypse Now to the list, per your statement in the Halloween ep.

FYI… Never seen it. (Added 11/04/09 – Tony)

  • 11 Chris // Oct 30, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Also from the Halloween ep… Swimming with Sharks.

Great film. (Added 11/04/09 – Tony)

  • 12 Chris // Nov 3, 2009 at 10:26 am

    Do The Right Thing

Adam’s never seen it. (Added 11/04/09 – Tony)

  • 13 Darren Goodhart // Nov 7, 2009 at 6:00 pm

Do The Right Thing is a terrific movie…

Lots of good stuff on that list, a lot of good things that I’d like to take part in- starting with Fight Club…

Of course, my own additions that I’d like to suggest would be the following:

    Grindhouse
    Reservoir Dogs
    Dogville
    A Clockwork Orange
    GoodFellas
    Dog Day Afternoon
    Heavy Metal
    Tron
and if you’re doing Mad Max eventually I’d figure a Road Warrior follow-up would be happening… (All 3 added 11/11/09 – Tony)

    Hi guys,

I’m a recent listener and I have to say that I really enjoy the show… I’d like to put a movie in for consideration… “Let The Right One In”… Yes, it’s a vampire movie. Yes, it’s a horror movie. However, it’s so different than the recent entries into either one of those genres and I definitely think it’s in my top 5 flicks for the last 2 years… There’s critical acclaim all over this movie and, in my estimation, it’s entirely deserved. Seriously, this one is creepy as hell!!!

  • 15 Chris // Nov 16, 2009 at 11:28 am

    From the Red Dawn ep…

    The Final Countdown

    doo-di-doooo
    doo-di-di-di-doooo…. (Added 11/17/09 – Tony)

It doesn’t come out till next year but, I’d like to hear you guys talk about Scott Pilgrim vs the World when it comes out.

  • 17 Fowl Sorcerous // Nov 23, 2009 at 1:33 am

Also, any chance of you following up on Fight Club with Fight Club: Members Only, the horrendous/hilarious bollywood reimagining?

  • 18 Fowl Sorcerous // Dec 2, 2009 at 11:03 pm

    The Warriors

  • 19 Ruroshen // Dec 3, 2009 at 1:55 am

The Iron Giant came up tonight in chat after the live show. It could make a good companion piece to one/some of Brad Bird’s later films with Pixar.

In fact, I don’t see any of the Pixar movies on the list. With Toy Story 3 coming up…I can’t remember, have any of them been done already?

  • 20 TheGreatMrChibi // Dec 15, 2009 at 3:24 am

Iron Giant is always a fantastic movie. Actually, lets get some animation representation up there.

    The Princess and the Frog
    Incredibles
    Up
    Ratatouille
Wall-E (Editor’s Note: Booster Seat Producers tackled this one in this episode: http://www.backseatproducers.com/2008/07/30/bsp-episode-071-the-dark-knight/ )
    Tekkonkinkreet
    Paprika
    Millennium Actress
Metropolis (not Fritz Lang’s, though that’s awesome too)
    Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Thief and the Cobbler (Recobbled version)
Those DC Animated movies (New Frontier, Doomsday, Wonder Woman, Public Enemies)
Ghost in the Shell (and maybe 2.0, but only if you can get a Philosophy major in the conversation)
    Princess Mononoke
    Spirited Away
    Ponyo
Kung Fu Panda (Editor’s Note: Booster Seat Producers tackled this one in this episode: http://www.backseatproducers.com/2008/06/11/bsp-episode-064-geek-movies-from-the-eighties/ )
    Bolt
TMNT (Editor’s Note: Someone needs to do his homework :)http://www.backseatproducers.com/2007/04/13/fbsd-episode-32-tmnt/ )
    Persepolis
Genius Party and Genius Party Beyond
Monster House (Which would go great as a triplet with Monster Squad and The Goonies) (Editor’s Note: Yeah, we did The Goonies already too.)

And that’s just the past 4 years, give and take a few films. (Most added 12/17/2009 – Tony)

  • 21 TheGreatMrChibi // Dec 15, 2009 at 3:37 am

  • 31 StingRay // Aug 17, 2010 at 11:08 pm

I saw a YouTube clip that reminded me I thought “Blown Away” was pretty good. That might be entirely wrong, but it’s got Jeff Bridges, Tommy Lee Jones, and explosions.

  • 32 Fowl Sorcerous // Nov 10, 2010 at 11:01 pm

    how’s about a Miyazaki marathon?

  • 33 ComputerKing // Nov 29, 2010 at 2:00 am

How about From Beyond, An early Jeffrey Combs flick (of course, based on a Lovecraft story), and the ONLY movie to EVER give me nightmares.

  • 34 Andrew // Nov 30, 2010 at 1:48 am

How about adding Jeffrey to the list. It stars Patrick Stewart and Steven Weber. Plus it’s on Netflix streaming.

You guys have to watch Cemetery Man (aka, “Dellamorte, Dellamore”). It’s a horror/black comedy, in which Rupert Everett plays the watchman of a cemetery where everyone buried comes back to life in seven days. He and his Igor-like assistant have to kill and re-bury every zombie. It’s a movie about a guy whose job is killing zombies, and he’s incredibly bored with it.

It’s bizarre, surreal and hilarious. Also, naked zombie Anna Falchi.
